Lx Stethoscope features brass and wood components for best sound quality
1

BRASS EARPIECE
Circa 2 times thicker than our competitors. Our brass earpieces are built for great acoustics and durability.

2

BINAURAL SPRING
The Lx Stethoscope’s spring is coated with a tough black nickel finish.

3

Lx STETHOSCOPE TUBING
Strong, thin profile, malleable, chemical and corrosive resistant tubing. Available custom length.

4

WOODEN BELL
The hand-turned wooden bell is the heart of the Lx Stethoscope. Its development and abilities inspired the engineering of the Lx Stethoscope in its entirety.

5

DIAPHRAGM
We firmly believe that Dr. Loriaux’s diaphragm geometry has advanced the stethoscope market. Its design allows for easy disassembly, advanced durability, variable frequency pickup and phenomenal sound transfer. The brass diaphragm is electroless nickel coated for corrosion resistance.

6

BRASS SOUND CHAMBER
The silver-soldered brass junction piece is the conjoining sound chamber of the diaphragm and wooden bell. The geometry of its air column captures the sound pressure and enables the user to listen to both high and low frequencies. The hand-soldered joints are fused with a high concentration of silver and are very strong.

CARBON STEEL and STAINLESS STEEL DIAPHRAGM DISCS

The pre-installed diaphagm disc is a heat treated carbon steel disc. Its most common application is for knives and blades, often referred to as “the knife iron.” It is a spring steel and is harder than the provided additional stainless steel disc. It does very well at transferring higher frequencies of sound. The bonus stainless steel disc needs no maintenance and it will not corrode. It is the softer of the two discs and does slightly better at transferring lower frequencies.

Decades of research.
Precision aerospace machining.
The highest quality American craftsmanship.

This is the Lx Stethoscope.

BRASS COMPONENTS

Brass is more conducive to sound transfer than most metals and alloys. Time tested over centuries through brass musical instruments. It is light-weight and durable. Like all copper alloys, uncoated neutral brass has antimicrobial properties that make it well suited for a hospital setting.

WOODEN BELL

Wood is equally well tested in string instruments and maple transmits sound exceedingly well. The hand turned wooden bell is the heart of the Lx Stethoscope. No two bells are alike, but all of them share a common ground in phenomenal acoustic clarity. Wood’s natural power to transfer varying frequencies is an unduplicable feature of the Lx Stethoscope. Enjoy the wooden bell that no one else owns but you.

PRECISION ENGINEERED DIAPHRAGM

The diaphragm is engineered at aerospace standard tolerances by a local Oregon machining company, specializing in aviation and medical devices. Our patent pending dodecagon retaining ring makes disassembly easy and convenient. The diaphragm’s construct, founded on Dr. Loriaux’s research, is engineered to withstand a lifetime of heavy use and rewarding results.

STRONG BRASS EAR PIECES

The brass ear pieces are very strong and twice as thick as other stethoscopes available on the market. The brass earpieces are difficult to bend by hand. This added strength provides long-term durability and quality ensuring years and years of use.

Lx STETHOSCOPE TUBING

The strength, durability and sound transfer of our tubing plays a crucial role in the Lx Stethoscope’s design. Dually, its smaller size and airy flexibility makes for a meaningful ease of use in maneuvering the bell and diaphragm.

CUSTOMIZED TO THE LENGTH YOU WANT

We custom make each Lx Stethoscope to the length you prefer. Shorter scopes fit well in the pocket while longer scopes are better for hanging around your neck. The length of your Lx Stethoscope is up to you and there’s absolutely no cost for this customization. So let us know when you place your order.

HANDCRAFTED IN AMERICA

The Lx Stethoscope is custom made and handcrafted in Oregon with American-made components. It’s inventor, Dr. Loriaux, M.D., Ph.D. is a professor of medicine at Oregon Health and Science University, where he was Chairman of the Department of Medicine for almost two decades.

EXTENSIVE RESEARCH

The Lx Stethoscope’s engineering is founded on Dr. Loriaux’s 50+ years of research. Honoring the late 1800’s/ early 1900’s Bowles and Cammann bell scopes and the 1940’s Rappaport & Sprague scopes, he advanced the diaphragm and bell combination to achieve an unparalleled variable frequency sound transfer.

The Lx Stethoscope is designed for consistent and heavy use, year after year.

Lx Stethoscopes are Made-to-Order

Lx Stethoscopes are not mass-produced on the scale of other scopes available. Our high-quality maple wood and brass scopes are made-to-order, customized to your preferred length. We understand some medical professionals prefer a shorter scope length while others prefer a longer length. That’s why we specially make your scope to any length between 22 and 30 inches.
